"Anika in the Neonatal ICU."

The day after Anika was born, the doctor became concerned about her breathing. They took her away from us and put her in intensive care. She was given oxygen, an IV and antibiotics in case she had a lung infection. We would go to visit and feed her ever few hours, but it was hard to see all the tubes and electrodes on her little body. She was only there for two days, yet it seemed like an eternity. Some babies who are born prematurely have to stay in the ICU for months. Their parents will make a way of life out of spending all their free time by the side of their baby's incubator. I can't imagine the worry and stress they must have to endure. I feel very lucky to have my little girl home now.
