I've always liked photographing carnival rides. These two rides were at the Rose Festival Fun Center last Summer. I think what I like about them is the way these huge machines, so intricate and dangerous, become so accessible to people. How often, outside of a carnival, do you get to step onto a 100 foot round scaffold that spins around in space? What's most amazing about it is that it serves no purpose beyond its spinning. These pictures were shot on Polaroid Polapan instant slide film--a b/w film with a tonality that looks like nothing else--its expensive, but great for fine art. It looks fantastic when printed with a direct positive process like Cibachrome.
