This image is from a newspaper assignment about a program called "Better People" which gets convicts back into the workforce. I only had about 3 minutes for this shoot and the supervisor, who was anxious to leave for a vacation, was standing right behind me the whole time. Usually I'm after getting emotional responses from my subjects through talking with them--however the short time I had, along with the deafening noise of this foundry made conversation impossible. I told the man to just keep working and I would grab what I could. Out of about 15 shots I took this is the one where I felt like I got something--even if I didn't reveal a whole lot about this man's personality, at least I feel that the photograph is interesting to look at.
