A couple of days ago I bought an old thermographic camera. It's a camera that uses an imaging plate kept at -70 degrees C. and reads the low frequency infrared light associated with radiant heat. Thus, this camera needs no light source, it forms images by seeing the differences in temperatures of different objects. I bought this camera not because I have aspirations of becoming a thermographer but because I was thinking that I got a great deal on it and hope that I can sell this device for a profit. New thermographic equipment can cost anywhere from 10-100 thousand dollars. My camera is 80's technology. If you are a budding thermographer and would like a nice starter camera, drop me a line. It's great for seeing where your house needs more insulation, or if you are tracking someone's footprints on the cold ground. December 7, 2000 |
